Australia is a lifeboat for world's most endangered sharks and rays, and a living library of millions of years of evolutionary shark and ray history.

Alarmingly, Australia still permits the catch and sale of endangered animals and is home to an imminent global extinction event. Time is running out to safeguard some of the world’s most endangered sharks and rays.

In partnership with SCF and other aligned funders, AMCS is on a mission to ensure Australia remains a lifeboat for species under threat, not an extinction hotspot.

Key project objectives are to:

  • Improve conservation outcomes for sawfish across northern Australia
  • Prevent the extinction of the Maugean Skate
  • Safeguard the future of (critically) endangered elasmobranchs unique to Australian waters
