Kenya has about 100 species of sharks and rays ("sharks"). The species are under threat of local depletion as bycatch from the fisheries. The Government of Kenya has developed a National Plan of Action for the Conservation and Management of sharks (NPOA-Sharks) in order to provide a framework for the sustainable management of the species. This project aims to generate information for some of the actions proposed in the NPOA-Sharks in order to improve on the current shark management practice.
